Hemi Metals is located in Hamilton New Zealand. With a reputation for quality, we manufacture and supply a range of metal products for various industrial applications-from extremely versatile wire and bars to a wide range of other uses. We offer precision-engineered O1 Tool and Die Steel Bars, which are known for their superlative hardness, wear resistance, and good machinability. Our O1 steel bars are produced in conformity with rigorous standards in all sectors, making them perfect for tooling, die-making, and machining. At Hemi Metals, we deliver products that you can trust and which are durable enough to satisfy customer quality and service requirements and for which delivery will not be tortured.
Tool and Die Steel O1 Bars are produced primarily from carbon steel, and its composition includes approximately 0.90–1.00% carbon, 0.40% manganese, 1.00% chromium, with trace amounts of silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. It is due to this composition that O1 steel boasts excellent hardness, wear resistance, and retention of edges. Its tensile strength is between 700-1,100 MPa, and after the heat treatment, the hardness varies between 55–62 HRC. O1 is also known for good machinability and dimensional stability, making it ideal for use in tool and die applications. Its toughness and resistance to cracking under high applied pressure ensure reliability in demanding machining environments.

When choosing O1 tool and die steel bars, consider factors like hardness, wear resistance, machinability, heat treatment requirements, intended application (e.g., cutting, stamping), and cost-effectiveness for long-term use.
O1 tool and die steel bars have moderate resistance to corrosion due to their carbon content and alloy composition. However, they are not stainless and can rust without proper maintenance, such as coating or regular oiling.
O1 tool and die steel can be welded, but it's crucial to preheat and control cooling rates to prevent cracking. Post-welding heat treatment is recommended to restore its hardness and properties.
Tool and Die Steel O1 Bars have widely been used for the production of precision tools and components because they possess excellent hardness, wear resistance, and machinability. The common application of O1 steel is for the production of cutting tools, dies, punches, molds, and jigs. O1 steel is ideal for machining operations requiring high precision like stamping, shearing, and forming tools. It is used for tools, which have the tendency to sustain heavy wear such as knives, blades, and forming dies. Another reason O1 is in such demand is its ability to sustain sharp edges in the manufacturing of small, complex components for the automotive, aerospace, and metalworking industries.
