Hemi Metals, based in Hamilton New Zealand, is the leading manufacturer and supplier of high-grade steel products for various industrial applications. A quality-driven company, it has gained recognition through the different types of materials that are offered to customers, like high-demanding Tool and Die Steel P20 bars, which are trusted because of their durability and precision. P20 bars have excellent machinability, hardness, and wear resistance. Therefore, they are used extensively in molds, dies, and tooling. In addition, the products from Hemi Metals have better quality and reliability, and as such, are trusted partners for many industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing.
Tool and die steel P20 bars contain, by weight, mostly carbon (0.28–0.40%), chromium (1.5–2.0%), manganese (1.50–2.0%), silicon (0.80–1.0%), and trace of sulfur and phosphorus. The common mechanical properties of the grade of steel are tensile strength ranging from 800–1000 MPa, yield strength around 550 MPa, and hardness of 28–32 HRC, besides providing good toughness and impact resistance, excellent for high-performance applications. P20 bars are heat-treated for maximum hardness with excellent machinability and wear resistance. These make them particularly suitable for injection molding, die-casting, and other tooling applications.

When choosing P20 tool and die steel bars, consider machinability, toughness, hardness, heat treatment capabilities, corrosion resistance, application requirements, cost-effectiveness, and availability of suitable sizes for your specific needs.
Tool and die steel P20 bars are typically sized by their diameter and length, with common diameters ranging from 1 inch to 10 inches, and lengths ranging from 10 to 20 feet.
Tool and die steel P20 bars are not ideal for high-temperature applications. While they offer good toughness and machinability, they have limited resistance to heat compared to steels designed for high-temperature environments.
Tool and die steel P20 bars are also used for many applications in molds, dies, and tooling components due to their excellent machinability, durability, and resistance to wear. Common uses include injection mold, blow molds, and stamping dies. The high tensile strength and fine grain structure of the steel, which allows it to be heat treated, make it excellent for parts subject to high pressure and friction. P20 bars are also used in making plastic molds, die-casting tools, and punch dies. Their stability under high temperatures and toughness make them essential in high-performance manufacturing environments.
