Hemi Metals, based in Hamilton, New Zealand, is a reliable manufacturer and supplier of top-notch Aluminium 2017 Forgings, specifically crafted for high-strength and precision-driven engineering needs. This copper-rich, heat-treatable alloy is celebrated for its excellent machinability, fatigue resistance, and solid mechanical properties. Hemi Metals specializes in creating custom forging components that meet international quality standards, ensuring they stand up to tough conditions. With cutting-edge forging techniques and rigorous quality checks, the company serves key industries like aerospace, automotive, structural engineering, marine, power generation, and industrial machinery, delivering dependable forged parts that excel in heavy load and high-stress situations.
Aluminium 2017 Forgings are made from an aluminum alloy that includes copper (3.5–4.5%), magnesium, manganese, silicon, and small amounts of iron and zinc. This heat-treatable alloy can achieve impressive strength and fatigue resistance when properly aged. Typical mechanical properties feature a tensile strength of 390–410 MPa, yield strength of 240–260 MPa, and a hardness rating of about 95–110 HB. While it offers good machinability, its corrosion resistance is moderate, often necessitating protective coatings. The high strength-to-weight ratio and structural integrity of Aluminium 2017 make it ideal for complex, heavy-load forged components.

Aluminum 2017 is suitable for forging but has limited high-temperature resistance. For high-temperature forging applications, consider alloys with better heat resistance, like 2219 or 2618.
The workability of Aluminum 2017, being moderate, affects forging by requiring precise temperature control (400–480°C) to prevent cracking and achieve proper plastic deformation, making it suitable for intricate shapes with care.
Aluminum 2017 offers high strength, excellent machinability, good corrosion resistance, and ease of welding, making it ideal for custom forgings in aerospace, military, and high-performance applications.
Aluminium 2017 Forgings find extensive use in areas where strength, precision, and fatigue resistance are paramount. In the aerospace sector, they are commonly used for aircraft fittings, rivets, gear parts, wing frames, and structural connectors. The automotive industry utilizes this alloy for engine mountings, suspension components, transmission fittings, and precision brackets. In military and defense applications, its reliability is crucial for various components.
